Bishop Airport serves the general aviation needs of
the Eastern Sierra in Inyo County. Situated on property owned by the Los
Angeles Department of Water and Power, the facility had not been evaluated
for long-range master planning since 1978. The aviation industry and FAA
rules and regulations currently in place resulted in the need to evaluate
the airport’s current compliance requirements and outline a
development program which is financially feasible and environmentally
compatible with the area. A local Planning Advisory Committee provided
guidance and review of draft materials during the planning process. The
study was undertaken over a 12-month period, with the final coordination
meetings undertaken in September 2001.
