Bremerton National Airport serves as a key corporate
general aviation facility in Kitsap County, Washington, and the west Puget
Sound region. The airport is only 36 statute miles north of Tacoma
and directly west of Seattle. The local economy is based primarily on
the United States Naval installations, which employ over 14,900 civilian
and 13,600 military personnel. Rapid growth in the area has resulted
in the need to examine areas for future facility development. The
airport is owned and operated by the Port of Bremerton, which also operates
the Olympic View Industrial Park adjacent to the airport. The master
plan recommended a $22 million upgrade to the facility over the 20-year
planning period.
