  • The Eastern Iowa Airport

The Eastern Iowa Airport is a small hub commercial service airport serving Cedar Rapids and the majority of eastern Iowa. It has also grown in importance as an air cargo airport. Coffman Associates was retained to update a ten-year-old master plan. Key airfield issues included providing a runway extension to serve cargo needs, a CAT II/III approach, as well as protecting the long term viability of the facility. The passenger terminal was examined with considerations for new and potential security requirements since 9-11, as well as for fleet mix change to regional jets. Parking and access were planned to match future needs as well as to provide for an on-airport loop circulation system. An on-airport land use plan was developed to provide better separation of functions in a practical manner.
