Chino Airport is located in the eastern portion of
the Los Angeles Metropolitan Area, and is one of six airports operated by
San Bernardino County. Chino Airport is renowned for the collection of
vintage World War I and World War II aircraft located in the two aircraft
museums. Chino Airport is also a busy general aviation aircraft
accommodating both fixed-wing and helicopter training activities, and
business aircraft activities for the Inland Empire region. The airport has
nearly 1,000 based aircraft. The airfield improvements included in the
master plan focused on meeting FAA design standards, taxiway improvements
for efficiency, relocating the Instrument Landing System, a new taxiway
identification plan, and a perimeter service road alignment. The landside
improvements included a detailed land use plan to accommodate projected
general aviation growth. The plan also focused on developing new revenue
sources by designating alternative land uses for both non-aviation and
aviation related development. Special consideration was given to improving
security and safety by planning for the development of segregated vehicle
and aircraft operating areas and designating secure public access points
for the entire airport. The study also included the development of a
conceptual landscape plan, architectural design standards, and building
development standards.
