Emery Worldwide, a major air cargo company, has a nighttime sortation facility at Dayton. Emery has been experiencing strong growth in recent years, contributing to concerns among airport neighbors about airport noise. Among the noise abatement recommendations was a departure turn routing traffic over a large floodplain conservation area. It was further recommended that undeveloped land between the airport and the floodplain, which was under increasing development pressure, should be purchased and held by the City. Efforts to manage the land as public open space in conjunction with the adjoining conservancy district also were recommended. A key land use recommendation was the establishment of an airport zoning board to adopt and administer airport compatibility overlay zoning.
