Denton Municipal Airport serves as a reliever airport
to the Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport. The airport has experienced
significant growth over the last decade and sought to update the 1992
airport master plan to address the increased demand. The airport had
extended its only runway to 6,000 feet, but this length falls short of the
demands of larger corporate aircraft. The plan includes enhancing
facilities to better serve corporate aviation, while also providing ample
facilities and services for smaller general aviation aircraft. As a result,
the plan recommends the construction of an airport traffic control tower,
new terminal building, extension of the existing runway to at least 7,000
feet, and the ultimate construction of a parallel runway designed to
enhance airport capacity.
