This general aviation airport in suburban Phoenix is
in a rapidly urbanizing residential area. The airport has been used
frequently by pilot training organizations and local airspace is tightly
constrained by nearby airports. Local citizens are organized into
neighborhood associations and a special airport noise committee. The major
emphasis of the study was on communication with the public. A variety of
noise measurement and descriptive techniques were used to analyze noise
(e.g. time above, SEL). Preferential runway use and the use of compatible
cooridors for approaches and departures were recommended. Compatible land
use planning and regulation in remaining undeveloped areas was a major
emphasis.
