Owned and operated by the City of Grand Prairie,
Grand Prairie Municipal Airport is designated as reliever, general aviation
airport for the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex. General aviation
aircraft based at the airport run the gamut from single engine piston
aircraft to turbo-prop business aircraft to an array of helicopters.
The airport provides a single runway; Runway 17-35, is 4,000 feet
long by 75 feet wide and is constructed of concrete. The runway is
also served by a parallel taxiway and five entrance/exit taxiways.
The master plan provides for the orderly use of existing facilities
to enhance the safety of aircraft operations, maintain existing airfield
and passenger terminal facilities, and support future aviation demand
(should new levels of demand be experienced). As a result, the plan
recommends the extension of the primary runway to at least 4,600 feet,
construction of a new terminal building and airport traffic control tower,
and construction of additional hangars to accommodate existing and future
aircraft demand levels.
