Hayward Executive Airport was formerly known as the Hayward
Air Terminal. The City of Hayward formally changed the name of the airport
to Hayward Executive Airport in 1999 to distinguish the airport as the
premier general aviation airport serving business aircraft in the region.
In support of this goal, the Master Plan gave specific attention to providing
executive hangar areas for business aircraft and developing a transient
terminal building. The redevelopment of an existing California Air National
Guard base for both aviation-related and non-aviation related development
was also examined. To reduce noise and overflight impacts on adjacent residential
developments, the Master Plan examined the relocation of the primary runway's
departure threshold. Concurrent with the Master Plan was an extensive environmental
evaluation of the proposed development program and completion of a Initial
Study per California Environmental Quality Act guidance.
