The City of Maricopa, located in Pinal County, Arizona, is approximately 20 miles south of Phoenix. Maricopa has been experiencing extremely rapid population and employment growth in the last decade. As a piece of their economic development plan, the City is pursuing the development of a full service general aviation airport and adjacent industrial park. Coffman Associates was retained to guide the City through the planning process. The Airport Feasibility Study completed to date has indicated there is a strong demand for a new general aviation airport and the forecasts indicate that the airport may expect up to 350 based aircraft, including 22 business jets, within 20 years. The selected airport site is currently a glider facility with excellent access to the surface transportation system. Constant communication has been maintained with the Arizona Aeronautics Division and the FAA as well as the local public on the plan progress. An airport master plan and environmental assessment for the selected site are the final planning steps before airport design and engineering of the new airport begins.
