Coffman Associates is in the process of completing an environmental
assessment for proposed safety improvements at Collin County Regional
Airport, located in McKinney, Texas. The airport currently does
not meet FAA design standards as they pertain to runway/taxiway
separation distances. Coffman Associates evaluated a number of
alternatives which would allow the airport to meet the standards while
minimizing the amount of time the airport would need to be closed for
construction. Environmental resources impacted by the proposed
improvements included wetlands, floodplains, and cultural
resources. Challenges overcome during the project related
primarily to public opposition to the project.
