Oceano Airport was constructed in the early 1950s to serve the Pismo
Dunes and Pismo Beach recreational areas. The airport is owned and
operated by the County of San Luis Obispo. The airport lies adjacent to
the Pismo Dunes Natural Preserve and less than one-half mile from the
Pacific Ocean. The master plan was completed in 2007, and provided an
opportunity to examine the future needs of the facility (for which a
long-range plan had never been undertaken). Redevelopment of older
storage hangar areas and the terminal area has been recommended to
better serve local and transient users.
