Riverside Airport has historically been a small general aviation reliever airport located approximately 60 miles to the east of downtown Los Angeles. The airport began to realize an increase in business jet activity and commissioned the Master Plan to address growing needs. The 2008 Master Plan forecast a transition of the airport from a design standard represented by small piston aircraft to much larger business jets. The Master Plan identifies numerous high priority projects including adding runway length, adding an arresting system at the end of one runway end, constructing a second parallel taxiway, and providing hangar development areas. All of these projects have been scheduled, through the master plan capital improvement program, to take place as demand-based triggers are reached.
