San Manuel Airport is owned and operated by Pinal
County. The airport is included as a Secondary Airport in the Arizona State
Airport System Plan. The Master Plan supported the Countyís request
to the FAA to be included in National Plan of Integrated Airport Systems
(NPIAS), which when approved, will provide for federal funding of
improvements at the airport. When the Airport Master Plan was being
prepared, San Manuel Airport was experiencing strong based aircraft growth
from northern Tucson and the growing communities of San Manuel, Oracle, and
Oro Valley. The recommendations of the Airport Master Plan included adding
airfield runway, taxiway, and visual approach lighting. A runway extension
was considered to serve the ultimate mix of light business class aircraft
expected to operate at the airport. Furthermore, the Master Plan provided
for T-hangar and conventional hangar construction, a fuel farm, wash rack,
terminal building, and helipad.
