Located approximately 30 miles south of Austin, the San
Marcos Municipal Airport is one of only two reliever, general aviation
airports in the Austin-San Marcos Metropolitan Statistical Area.
A converted Air Force Base, the airport has four paved runways. Runway
8-26 is the longest at 6,330 feet, while Runway 12-30 is 5,602 feet and
provides the airport with an instrument landing system approach. The 1,303
acres airport is home to Barry Aviation, the Confederate Air Force, and
dozens of other hangars. The airport master plan aimed at better meeting
the needs of the corporate operators utilizing the airport. To better accommodate
corporate traffic, the plan includes the extension of Runway 12-30 to 6,400
feet, developing Runway 17-35 as the primary runway, and organizing a more
centralized terminal area.
