  • Telluride Regional Airport

Telluride Regional Airport is located at 9,078 feet and is the highest commercial service airport in the United States.  The master plan focused on meeting runway safety area (RSA) standards for the mix of business jets currently using the airport.  Sitting on top a mesa, significant fill and the development of large retaining walls is necessary to meet RSA standards; therefore, the master plan focused on defining critical runway lengths to limit the amount of fill needed. This included examining the departure and landing lengths of three regional jet aircraft and six business jets to determine an optimal runway length. Declared distances were planned to increase departure lengths.  The capital program focused on the financial feasibility and phasing to implement the estimated $60 million five year capital program to rebuild the runway and meet RSA standards.  The master plan developed a demand-based landside program to segregate passenger airline, based aircraft, and transient aircraft users with the development of a segregated airline terminal, general aviation terminal, and aircraft storage areas.
