As the largest commercial service airport in the State of Kansas,
Wichita Mid-Continent Airport also supports a manufacturing and service
facility for Cessna Aircraft (a division of Textron) and a final
production and flight test facility for Learjet (a division of
Bombardier). The facility celebrated its 50th anniversary in
2004. The master plan reflects a new replacement terminal between
the parallel runway system, an extension to one of the runways,
additional taxiway development to serve aviation users, and expansion
of air cargo facilities. Benefit cost analysis was undertaken in
support of a full-length parallel taxiway along the east side of the
airfield, and completion of a parallel taxiway to provide two-way
taxiing on the opposite side of the same runway. Under a separate
contract with the City of Wichita, Coffman Associates also prepared a
master plan for Colonel James Jabara Airport, the general aviation
reliever airport operated by the Wichita Airport Authority.
