Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport is a former military air base that was decommissioned in the early 1990’s. Coffman Associates did the first master plan for civilian use of the airport and has completed two major updates to that plan since then. Through comprehensive planning, the airport has successfully transitioned from military use to general aviation use to commercial use. Over 10 million passengers are planned through the duration of the current master plan. Master Plans for Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport have included comprehensive analysis of runway usage, terminal building capacity, surface transportation, and land use. The airport supports significant aviation related businesses including both Cessna and Embraer having overhaul facilities at the airport. A number of non-aviation related businesses also call the airport home. This Master Plan has truly encompassed every aspect of airport planning.
