Known as one of the busiest general aviation airports in the United States, Mesa-Falcon Field Airport serves as a key transportation facility in the eastern Phoenix Metropolitan Area. The airport experienced significant growth in aircraft operations and aviation development in 2007, and as a result, the Master Plan presented several alternatives to help improve the overall capacity of the airport while at the same time accommodating continued landside development. The recommended plan called for a full-length midfield taxiway serving the parallel runway system and additional taxiway development to provide aircraft access to undeveloped areas on the airport. The plan also proposed the replacement of the existing terminal building and a new location for the airport traffic control tower that would best serve airport activities in the coming years. Airport property that is not adjacent to the airfield system was also considered in order to maximize revenue enhancement opportunities for airport management. Public involvement was strongly encouraged so interested parties could provide comments and input during the development of the Master Plan.
